Karina A. Bashir  

An accomplished attorney and thought leader, I am working to support a new paradigm of care and equity at the intersection of law, ethics, and psychedelics.

I serve as Of Counsel with Antithesis Law, PC, where I advise on a wide range of legal and business matters, including corporate formation, risk mitigation, contract drafting, compliance, dispute resolution, and best practices. As a leader in ethics and best practices, I work closely with organizations to develop dynamic, living guidelines that promote accountability, integrity, and a values-aligned approach to growth. Additionally, I previously served on the Board of the Psychedelic Bar Association, where I stewarded the Religious Use Committee for three years..

In parallel, I am engaged at the intersection of Islamic thought and psychedelic traditions. Guided by the belief that psychedelics can be a bridge for spiritual and psychological healing within Muslim communities, I explore obstacles to access and the potentiality of Islamic mysticism, or Sufism, with psychedelic practice. Moreover, my work considers how these traditions can inform and shape healing practices within the broader wellness community. 

A Fulbright Scholar and Gates Cambridge Scholar, I hold a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley School of Law, a Master of Philosophy in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.

  • Workshop Series, “Embodied Faith: Jewish & Muslim Spiritualities in Connection.” Taught alongside Hadar Cohen. 3-week interfaith series exploring Jewish and Islamic spiritual traditions through reflection, embodied practice, and shared inquiry. Drawing on scripture, poetry, ritual, and somatic awareness, we will explore how slowing down and listening to the body can deepen our relationship with ourselves, one another, and the Divine.

    Interactive Workshop, “The Divine Feminine in Jewish and Islamic Spiritualities.” Workshop taught alongside Hadar Cohen — a workshop devoted to exploring the Divine Feminine through the spiritual lineages of Judaism and Islam. Drawing on poetry, scripture, history, and personal experience to reconnect with the feminine aspects of the Divine (August 2025).

    Webinar & Guest Speaker, Seattle University School of Law, Bioethics, Psychedelics, and the Law; (November 2025). Overview of bioethics and psychedelic law, addressing barriers to safe and equitable access to treatment, including federal Schedule 1 status, costly treatment, and the significant diversity gap in research and clinical trials. Bioprospecting and biopiracy in the context of indigenous knowledge/reciprocity, and psychedelic patents; and the ethical complexities of informed consent.

    Workshop, University of Maryland School of Social Work in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy, Psychedelic legal landscape related to clinical practice, and the emerging ecosystem of care for psychedelic medicine and treatment, (May 2025).

    Workshop, Vital Psychedelics Training Program, Psychedelic Legal Landscape 101 (May 2025). Lead workshop, providing an overview of the psychedelic legal landscape to medical and wellness professionals seeking to incorporate psychedelic-informed and harm reduction practices into their work.

    • Human Rights Center Student Fellow (2018)
      Awarded by the UC Berkeley School of Law Human Rights Center. As a fellow, supported Advocates Abroad in Greece by providing legal services to refugees and asylum seekers, leading projects like a digital "legalese dictionary" for interpreters, and conducting research on the safety of refugee camps.

      Selected as one of 90 scholars worldwide by the Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in International Relations and Politics at the University of Cambridge. The scholarship recognizes exceptional academic ability, leadership, and a commitment to improving the lives of others.

    • Fulbright Scholar (2013)
      Awarded by the U.S. State Department for an English Teaching and Research Fulbright Award in Bahrain. Taught at Arabian Gulf University and conducted research on labor law and the experiences of migrant workers.
